Berry's Company History
Berry's Expediting was founded in 1972 by Roy and Virginia Berry. They started out as an agent for Emery Air Freight operating one truck driven by Mr.Berry and a small office staffed by Mrs.Berry located in the baggage area at Columbia Metro Airport.
When Emery opened its own company office in Columbia,SC some years later, the Berry's introduced Federal Express to the midlands of SC. After rapid growth and service expansion the same fate of a Federal Express company office coming to Columbia soon took its toll.
Berry's Expediting had to modify their business plan, and become more of a generic carrier operating reliable service for the large fleet carriers and the new forwarder market that was emerging in Air Freight. After establishing a Flying Tigers agency in SC and then a Burlington Northern Air Express, Berry's was on its way to establishing the concept of dependable service for the express industry regardless of carrier or mode into our service area.
Our name was changed to Berry's Air Freight in the 1980's and now to reflect the more broadening capabilities of our customer base we go under the umbrella of Berry's Freight.
Berry's Freight is still owned and operated by Virginia Berry and her three sons. Kenneth,Christopher, and Ashley. Mr Roy Berry passed in 2000, but is never forgotten, as his driving principles of common sense, hard work, and get it done enthusiasm are still present in everything we do today.
